Locally owned and remaining a regular part of Austin for almost 30 years, Upper Crust is where you come for a quick stop in or to sit down for a while. Read the paper, play candy crush or just doom scroll through Facebook while hanging out with the folks at Upper Crust. They are open from 7 am – 4 pm every day of the week except Sunday. This much greatness needs at least one day of rest to prepare for the upcoming days.
Heaven’s Bistro Bakery

One step into Heaven’s Bistro Bakery on West Palmer Lane will have you questioning whether you are still even residing in America. This French style bakery and bistro features only authentic menu items that have enough flair to make you stop and stare, with flavors that will keep you coming back. Boasting the “best cheesecakes in Austin” Heaven’s Bistro keeps the thrills coming with every good purchased. Come in every day between 8 am and 5 pm to see what they have to offer. Bonus points if you order a wedding cake from Heaven’s Bistro, you will fall madly in love with any of their available designs.
Nate’s Baked Goods & Coffee

Located on the corner of 4th and Orchard here in Austin, Nate’s Baked Goods and Coffee is one of those cozy coffee shops that will make you feel right at home from the moment you step over the threshold. Open every day until 4 pm, you can enjoy some locally roasted Texas coffee. For a twist try some of their Hibiscus Mint Iced Tea alongside their English Cucumber Pimento Cheese Sandwich. Come in one of these days for breakfast or lunch, maybe even both. We won’t blame you if your group ends up wanting to stick around and hang out until close.
Moonlight Bakery

Lamar Blvd is a central area in Austin where you can find just about anything you could ever want for while you’re visiting. Moonlight Bakery adds to all the bustle with European style baked goods from cakes to cookies and back. From 6:30 am – 5 pm daily (except Sunday) you can get that sweets craving in check early in the day or pick something up to serve with dinner. Try out their Bat Cookies or the cheese jalapeño scone for something a little different from your average bakery setup. Even better than those choices, you can get into the autumn state of mind with one of their pumpkin muffins.

Except for Sundays, you can come in between 10 am and 4 pm to try out a selection of baked goods AND a lunch/dinner menu that can’t be beat. Try out the pecan pimento cheese for a twist on the classic side dish and find out why Word of Mouth is all this bakery needs to keep going strong.
Zucchini Kill Bakery

Mentioned here on The Austin Insider in at least one previous article, Zucchini Kill Bakery is a female-led bakery serving up a side of punk rock with their Vegan baked goods. When you need something that is soy and gluten free, cruelty free but still filled with all the flavor you need, you make your way to Zucchini Kill Bakery on 53rd St. Varying hours throughout the week means you’ll have to double check for the hours, just know that they are closed on Mondays. Along with their regular menu, you can even order custom cakes and swiss rolls for your next big party. Even the non-Vegan family members in your life won’t be able to tell the difference, that’s how great of a job Zucchini Kill manages to do with every product they put out to the public. Paying homage to the female led, punk legends while feeding everyone in a way that won’t tear your stomach up, this bakery is a must stop for any alternative adults.
Paper Route Bakery

Owned by one of Austin’s most accomplished bakers, Paper Route Bakery on Cesar Chavez St is where you go when you’re craving cake specifically. Made with ingredients that are of the highest quality, you can’t go wrong with a cake from Paper Route Bakery. Take your pick from menu items like Coffee Fox, Strawberry Book Club and much more. The only thing about Paper Route Bakery that might be problematic would be having to pick from only one of what is on their menu. Only open from 8 am – 2 pm Thursday through Sunday, you will want to plan for a weekend pickup. Any menu choice from ThoroughBread will keep your family and friends wanting more. Tiny’s Milk & Cookies

While this bakery is not a sit down location, Tiny’s Milk & Cookies on west 35th street is where you want to stop in before a picnic date or party. This walk-up window in the Kerbey Lane Village shopping center keeps a fully stocked menu of baked goods, coffees and even in-house made ice cream. Whether you’re out for a walk or planning a big bike ride through town, Tiny’s Milk & Cookies should be on your list of stops to refuel. Along with three other Houston based locations, the Austin stop has become a regular visit for locals and guests alike. Come up anytime from 7 am – 9 pm and see what they have to offer.

Open every single day from 5 am – 3 am, Voodoo Doughnut is just about always ready to have guests come in. Outlandish doughnut designs covered in the sweetest treats that we all love, Voodoo is truly an experience along with a massive menu. Ask about their Voodoo Doll doughnut, which is available Vegan style if that’s what you need. You won’t easily forget a visit to Voodoo Doughnut no matter where you happen to stumble upon one of their locations so go ahead and add it to the list. Also, you will want to stay on the lookout for their upcoming Burnet St location. Austin remains home to some of the country’s best culinary treats and Voodoo Doughnut is no exception to the hype.
Sugar Mama’s Bakeshop

At some point in most of our lives, we have all made the “I need a Sugar Mama” joke and this well-known bakery on 1st St is ready to make your dreams come true, even if they will end up taking your money instead of giving it out. One visit will have you wanting to find a real Sugar Mama just to fund the need to try out more from their menu. Look for the giant cupcake above the door and you will know you’ve found the place to be. Recently recommended by RestaurantGuru, the cupcakes, cookies and even DIY (Decorate it Yourself) packages are all to die for. Nothing tastes sweeter than a visit to Sugar Mama’s Bakeshop so stop in from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am – 7 pm for a treat that will keep you talking for months after.
