Concrete Cowboy

Three locations throughout Texas means that the Concrete Cowboy is certainly a popular spot around here, no matter which one you decide to visit. Open from Thursday-Sunday until 2 am, Concrete Cowboy is known for being the place you go when you want to party hard and hear some great country, blues or rock music. Like tons of other epic mentions made here on The Austin Insider, the Concrete Cowboy Austin location is situated at the end of west 6th Street, giving you yet another excuse to visit that particular road.
The Little Longhorn Saloon

Beer, wine, champagne, and a famous house mix Bloody Mary that is sure to rock your socks, The Little Longhorn Saloon on Burnet Road is ready to have you come visit on all days but Monday. Featuring live music during all of their open evenings, this honky tonk is where you can really cut a rug with your friends, or even by yourself. If you’re ever around on a Sunday night, you will definitely have to give their “famous” bingo a try. For the last 15 years, they have featured rounds of bingo like you’ve never seen before. If country music isn’t your thing (but you’re still reading this article) then come out on a Sunday. But for those who want to jam out, check out their events calendar. There’s even a two-step dance class for dancers in all walks of their journey.
The White Horse

Have you ever wanted to learn how to two-step but weren’t sure where to begin? Look no further than The White Horse on Comal Street in Austin. You can find dance lessons and live music inside to work up your appetite for the taco truck sitting out front. Don’t let the title fool you though, there’s much more on the menu than just the “bomb” taco selection. Monday through Sunday from 3 pm – 2 am, whether it be for the nightly live music or the food, you’re sure to find plenty of reasons to experience The White Horse.
Broken Spoke

Local Favorite Alert! Since 1964, Broken Spoke on Lamar Blvd has been the place to go when you want to dance off a meal of chicken fried steak. Known for being a favorite spot of big names like Garth Brooks, you can enjoy live music and even dance lessons at this location. No cover charge and a constant array of the greatest musicians that Austin has to offer means you need to hurry up and check out Broken Spoke while you’re in town. Enjoy a full food menu and free show on Tuesday night from 6-8 pm at this true Honky Tonk, minus all the thrills of Carnegie Hall but full of twice the fun.
Donn’s Depot

What was once an old train depot that was purchased for 300$ by Bob Ogden, local civil engineer and businessman from 50 years ago, is now Donn’s Depot, a place to dance and sing and take a load off. Keeping “Old Austin” alive is what they go for at this local treasure so if you’re looking for groovy anytime activity, Donn’s Depot is the place to be! Mentioned in Buzzfeed, Washington Post and even the New York Times, this local legend has more than enough reason to want to come in and see what they’ve got for you.
Shiner’s Saloon

32 beers on tap is just part of the reason that you will want to make your way over to Shiner’s Saloon on Congress Avenue. Open until 2 am every night, you will find live music, Sunday football game showings and an “elevated” bar food menu all presented on their rooftop patio. If incredible music, awesome service and a view of the Austin skyline are what would make your outing perfect, you won’t have to choose another location. Stop by sometime and see what their menu looks like, plenty of classic items elevated with a Texas twist!

San Jac Saloon

Every day of the week, you can mosey on down to San Jac Saloon on 6th street and make your selection between the upper and lower floors for live country music. Top floor features an acoustic set while downstairs is where the party starts with a full band setup. This is one of the most authentic western style bars that you are going to find in all of 6th street. Texas based craft beers and fine whiskey lines their full menu and there’s a guarantee that you will want to visit this spot every time you find yourself in Austin.
Continental Club

Local Favorite alert! Since 1955, the Continental Club on South Congress in Austin has been a classic location for all things live music. Showcasing nightly a wide variety of local talent; Rockabilly, country, swing, jazz and blues musicians all find a home at Continental Club at some point on their journey through Austin. If you’re not sure about how close to this club you are, just look for the recognizable flashing neon sign and hot rods that regularly line the parking area.
Sam’s Town Point

When you want to go out in Austin but avoid all the frills and fancy that has taken over the city in recent years, look for the well-hidden Sam’s Town Point sign on Allred Drive. Proud of their roots with no intention to keep things just the way they have always been, you can come out to dance on their patio and listen to live music without having to get all gussied up for the occasion. Any band on their setlist has that Austin charm we all crave, but none of the overwhelming atmosphere.
Poodies Hilltop Roadhouse

Like many other bars in Texas, Poodies is famous for having live music happening every day of the week but Poodies is iconic for other reasons. Reasons like having Willie Nelson, Billy Bob Thornton and many other famous names gracing their stage. Open until 2 am, this bar and grill sits on State Hwy 71 and has enough menu options to pair with their live entertainment to keep you fed and happy for hours on end. Every day is a good day at Poodies, come out sometime and see why! While this bar is located in Spicewood, about an hour away from Austin, you won’t regret making the journey out that way.
Last Chance Bar & Dancehall

The second oldest dance hall in Texas, Last Chance Bar & Dancehall has been graced with the presence of more than its fair share of greats over the years. Stevie Ray Vaughn and Willie Nelson are two of many names that they can boast about at this instantly memorable location right on the county line of Austin and Dripping Springs. Along with regular country music acts, you can bring your own instruments every Tuesday for open mic night and play where the greats did. Plenty of room to boogie and an appetizer menu for when you’ve worked up an appetite on the dance floor, Last Chance Bar & Dancehall doesn’t have to be your last choice when seeking out country music in Austin.
Stubb’s Bar-B-Q

Mentioned before here on The Austin Insider, Stubb’s Bar-B-Q is an iconic slice of Austin, to say the least. Along with a menu that is sure to impress, this part restaurant/ part venue establishment is where you want to go for live music. Whatever reason you come into Stubb’s on Red River Street, you will want to visit over and over again just to check out the live music selection. While they do have a good amount of country music Stubb’s is open to all genres of live music performances. Some of your favorite touring musicians even choose Stubb’s Bar-B-Q for a stop while traveling the country so keep an eye out and check their event schedule regularly. For those who can’t get enough gospel music on Sundays, you will want to look out for their Sunday Brunch Buffet.
Scoot Inn

Part of the Austin scene since 1871, the historic Scoot Inn has been serving the area since long before any of us were around to talk about it. Whether you choose to chill inside or out, the venue area has been hosting eclectic bands for many years and keeps the party going. This smaller dive style bar on 4th street may not look like much during their closed hours, but they fill up fast when live music comes through. While they are not only in the business of hosting country musicians, the live act selection has been known for quality sound no matter what genre comes through. You will want to give a look to their calendar and see who is coming in if you’re looking for country music specifically.
