Austin Bike Tour of Downtown, on the Party Bike

Fair warning before you book: this is not a cycling tour. No road bikes, no spandex, no 20-mile loop. It is a 15-seat party bike with a bar down the middle, a canopy overhead and a motor that does most of the work, and a local guide steers it through downtown Austin for about 2 hours with stops at local bars along the way. If you want to see downtown, the Congress bat bridge and the Red River music district with a cooler of your own drinks at your elbow, this is the bike tour for you. If you came for a workout, it is not. 2 or 3 of you? Book $35 seats on a public ride. 4 to 15 and you want the bike to yourselves, the button below is the one.

What the Austin Bike Tour Covers

The route. Every ride starts and ends at 806 San Jacinto Blvd, across from the Omni, and runs through downtown's historic blocks, up Congress Avenue and over the Congress bat bridge, then through the Red River music district. Along the way the bike pulls up at a few local bars so you can stretch your legs, grab a drink inside and use the restroom. About 2 hours door to door, and the guide knows which blocks are worth a slow roll and which to skip.

The bike. 15 seats, most of them with pedals and a few without for anyone who would rather sit this one out. There is a motor, so the pedaling is as much or as little as your group feels like, and nobody is pushing a bike uphill. A sound system runs your playlist, and coolers with ice hold your drinks. It is BYOB in cans and plastic, no glass and no hard liquor, and you have to be 21 to drink and 18 to ride.

Who it suits. Visitors who want to cover downtown in an afternoon without a car, groups who want the bar stops as much as the ride, and anyone who has looked at Austin bike tours and decided the one with a bar on it sounds better than the one that is a workout. If you are 2 or 3 people, grab $35 seats on a public ride and share the bike. If you are 4 to 15, rent the whole bike for $350 Sunday through Thursday or $395 on Friday and Saturday, and the playlist, the stops and the pace are yours. A private bike needs at least 4 riders.

When. We run 11am to 11pm every day, rain or shine. An afternoon slot is the daylight tour of downtown; an evening slot is the same route with the city lit up and the bars busier. Either way, on Google we are at 5.0 from 5,975 reviews, the most reviewed party bike in Austin, which is about as much of a sales pitch as the ride needs. Book your time and meet us at the Omni corner.

Austin bike tour questions

Is this a cycling tour or a party bike?

A party bike. It is a 15-seat bike with a bar down the middle, a canopy overhead and a motor that does most of the work, and a local guide steers it through downtown. You pedal as much or as little as you feel like, and nobody is pushing a bike uphill. If you came for a workout, this is not it.

How long is it and where does it start?

About 2 hours door to door. Every ride starts and ends at 806 San Jacinto Blvd, across from the Omni Hotel in downtown Austin, and we run 11am to 11pm every day, rain or shine.

How many people do you need?

2 or 3 of you? Book $35 seats on a public ride; book 1 seat or a few, and the ride goes out once 4 seats are sold for that time. A private bike needs at least 4 riders and seats up to 15. Over 15, book 2 or more bikes; they leave together, ride the same route and stop at the same bars.

Can we bring drinks?

Yes, the bike is BYOB. Bring your drinks in cans or plastic, no glass and no hard liquor, and the coolers and ice are on the bike. Drinks stay on the bike while you are seated. You have to be 21 to drink and 18 to ride, so everyone brings an ID.

How much is it?

$35 a seat on a public ride, any day. The whole bike is $350 Sunday through Thursday or $395 on Friday and Saturday, for up to 15 people. Coolers, ice, the sound system and your guide are included, and you bring the drinks.
