Frequently asked questions
Everything people ask before they book a party bike in Austin. If yours is not here, call or text 512-539-7861.
Price and booking
How much does Austin Pedal Party cost?
A private party bike is $350 Sunday to Thursday and $395 Friday and Saturday, for up to 15 people. A seat on a public ride is $35, any day. Coolers, ice, the sound system and your guide are included; you bring the drinks. See pricing and book, or call 512-539-7861 with questions.
What's the difference between a private ride and a public ride?
A private ride means the whole bike is yours, for up to 15 people, at $350 Sun-Thu or $395 Fri-Sat. A public ride sells seats at $35 each, so you share the bike with other people who booked the same time. Both run the same downtown Austin route, stop at local bars and take about 2 hours.
Is there a minimum number of people for a private bike?
A private bike needs at least 4 riders to pedal, and it seats up to 15. The motorized assist does most of the work, but 4 sets of legs keep the ride moving. Fewer than 4? Book $35 seats on a public ride and you'll share the bike with other riders on the same route.
Can we book more than one bike?
Yes. We have 4 party bikes, and groups over 15 people can be spread out onto multiple bikes that ride the route together. Each bike is booked at the regular rate, $350 Sun-Thu or $395 Fri-Sat. For a group bigger than 30, call 512-539-7861 first so we can line up the bikes for your date.
Group size, age and who can ride
How many people fit on one party bike?
Up to 15 people ride on one Austin Pedal Party bike. Most seats have pedals, and some don't, so anyone who'd rather sit back can still come along. If your group is bigger than 15 people, multiple bikes can be reserved to tour together.
What if we have more than 15 people?
We have 4 bikes in total, so we can handle groups up to 60 people. Call 512-539-7861 if you'd like us to set up a multiple bike ride.
Is there an age minimum? Can riders under 21 come?
Everyone 18 and older can ride, so younger siblings, cousins and coworkers come too. Bring a valid ID; 21 and older can bring and drink alcohol on the bike. Riders between 18 and 20 ride, pedal and pick the music like everyone else; they just skip the cooler.
Can we bring kids on a private bike?
No. Everyone on the bike is 18 or older, so bring an ID. If part of your group is under 18, the ride ends where it starts at 806 San Jacinto, which makes it an easy place to meet up after.
What if someone in our group can't pedal?
They can still ride. Every bike has motorized assist and some seats with no pedals, so anyone who'd rather not pedal sits back and enjoys the ride. Pedaling riders put in only as much effort as feels comfortable. If someone needs a no-pedal seat, mention it when you book or call 512-539-7861 before your ride.
Drinks and what to bring
Can we bring our own alcohol?
Yes, it's BYOB, so you pick the drinks and set the budget. Bring beer, wine, seltzers and mixers in cans or plastic; they ride in the onboard coolers with ice. Glass and hard liquor stay home. Drinks stay on the bike, so your cooler is right there the whole ride. 21 and older to drink.
Do you provide coolers and ice?
Yes. Coolers and plenty of ice are on the bike when you arrive, so you can bring your drinks straight from the store. Cans and plastic only, so nothing breaks on the road. We can't sell or supply alcohol ourselves, which is why it's BYOB.
What should I wear?
Wear what you'd wear to a patio bar. Closed-toe shoes make pedaling easier, and the seats are elevated, so pick an outfit you're comfortable in on a tall seat. In sandals or a dress? Take one of the seats with no pedals and ride along.
What can't we bring on the bike?
Glass and hard liquor stay home; cans and plastic ride in the coolers. Pets stay home too, since the bike isn't built for them. Small purses and bags fit in the bike's storage, so leave big bags at the hotel. Everything else, including costumes and decorations, is welcome.
Can we decorate the bike for a bachelorette or birthday?
Yes. Decorations and costumes are welcome on a private bike, so sashes, balloons and a birthday sign are all fair game. Bring anything that can be tied on or carried; the bike moves, so keep it to things that won't blow away.
Can we play our own music?
Yes, on a private bike. There's a sound system on board, so bring your playlist and your guide runs it. The birthday person or the bride gets first pick. On a public ride your guide plays for the whole bike and takes requests.
The ride itself
What is a party bike?
It's a 15-seat pedal-powered bike with a driver, coolers and a sound system. You and your group pedal; the driver steers and handles the route. It runs about 2 hours through downtown Austin and over the Congress bat bridge, with stops at local bars. It's the bar bike you've seen rolling down Congress; some people call it a beer bike or a pedal bar. We call it a party bike.
How long is the ride?
About 2 hours, including short stops at local bars. Most of the time is on the bike, rolling through downtown Austin and over the Congress bat bridge. Traffic and how fast your group pedals can shift the timing by a few minutes either way, so plan dinner for after the ride.
Where does the ride start and end?
Every Austin Pedal Party ride starts and ends at 806 San Jacinto Blvd, across from the Omni, downtown. That's the map pin to use. You'll see one of our party bikes waiting at the corner of 8th and San Jacinto. Rides run 11am to 11pm daily.
Where do we park?
Street parking is usually available on San Jacinto Blvd or 8th Street, close to the start. If the street is full, there are 2 lots on 7th Street, one at San Jacinto and one at Trinity, a couple of blocks away. Call 512-539-7861 if you can't find a spot and we'll point you to one.
What's the route? Where does the bike go?
From 806 San Jacinto the ride rolls through downtown's historic blocks, the Red River music district, up Congress Avenue and over the Congress bat bridge, with stops at our Bar Buddies along the way, then back to the start. About 2 hours in total. Your guide steers; you pedal as much or as little as you like. If you were searching for an Austin bike tour, this is it, on a party bike: see our Austin bike tours page for the whole ride.
Do we stop at bars along the way?
Yes. Every ride stops at our Bar Buddies, the local downtown bars we partner with. Stops are short: long enough to grab a drink, stretch your legs and use the restroom. Most of the 2 hours is on the bike, which is where the party is.
Are there bathrooms?
Yes, at the bar stops. Each stop is long enough for a restroom break and a drink, and the start point at 806 San Jacinto is in the middle of downtown. There's no bathroom on the bike itself, so plan around the bar stops.
How hard is the pedaling? Do I have to pedal the whole time?
It's easier than it looks. Every bike has motorized assist, so a little effort from the group goes a long way, and you pedal only as much as feels comfortable. There are also seats with no pedals. Most riders finish without breaking a sweat.
Do you provide a driver, or do we steer?
Your guide steers the bike, handles the route and the stops, and runs the music. You and your group pedal when you feel like it, and the motorized assist does the rest. On a private bike the guide works to your group's pace; on a public ride they keep the whole bike moving together.
Weather, cancellation and changes
What happens if it rains?
We ride rain or shine. If the weather turns unsafe, we let you know before your ride and refund in full, so you never have to guess. A passing shower doesn't stop the ride, so bring a light jacket in the cooler months and plan on riding.
What is the cancellation and rescheduling policy?
Cancel 14 or more days before your ride and we refund in full. Inside 14 days, or if the group misses the start time, we can't refund the booking. You also get one free reschedule: ask at least 2 days before your ride, and the new date needs to be within 7 days of the original. One call to 512-539-7861 handles either one.
Tipping and extras
Should we tip the guide?
If your tour guide (the bike's operator) made the ride, a tip is appreciated and goes straight to them. Cash, Venmo, Cash App and Zelle all work. There's no set amount; tip the way you would a good server. Guides' names come up in a lot of our Google reviews for a reason.
Do you have Spanish-speaking guides?
Yes. Email austinpedalparty@gmail.com when you book and ask for a guide who speaks Spanish, and we'll match one to your ride where we can. Give us as much notice as possible, especially for a Friday or Saturday ride, so the right guide is on the schedule for your date.
