The SXSW Plan
Where you start. We leave from 806 San Jacinto Blvd at 8th, across from the Omni. Your group can finish whatever it is doing downtown, text "meet at the Omni corner," and walk to the bike. We run 11 am to 11 pm every day, so an afternoon ride fits between the daytime stuff and the showcases, and the last rides come back as the night is getting started.
What the ride is. About two hours, pedaling through downtown with your own music on the speakers and two or three stops at local partner bars. Bull's Irish Pub and Casino El Camino are on our list for afternoon rides, with Green Light Social added for evening slots. It is BYOB, cans and plastic bottles only, no glass and no hard liquor; we bring the coolers and the ice. Everyone needs an ID. You have to be 18 to ride and 21 to drink.
What it costs for a group. A private bike seats 6 to 15 people and is $350 Sunday through Thursday or $395 on Friday and Saturday, which during SXSW means a weeknight ride for a team of twelve works out to about $30 a head. If you are in town with only three or four people, public seats are $35 each and you ride with whoever else booked that slot. Full refund with 14 days' notice, and one reschedule if you ask at least two days ahead and move it within a week, which matters when a flight or a showcase lineup changes on you. Book the bike before the rest of your team's calendar does it for you.
Keep it simple. Pick a weekday afternoon, put the matching shirts on if you have them, and tell the group one address and one time. The bike handles the rest, and everyone steps off downtown together, a few blocks from wherever the night goes next. Austin Pedal Party is not affiliated with SXSW; it is just the best two hours your group will spend off the schedule that week.
